Dear Carla,
As you know, we have had one of the worst and one of the best experiences possible in the training of our 20 month old German shepherd. This is our fourth German shepherd so we have had them for some 35 years. We got Toot when he was six (6) weeks old. He is an East German DDR and is very high energy and strong willed. We decided when was ten months old that we needed professional help with him. After looking around, we found a facility that said they would keep him for fifteen days and did not want us to see him until the training was complete. At the end of that period, they wanted to keep our Darling another four days as he needed additional help. When we got our dog back we knew that there was a major problem. He had lost fourteen (14) pounds and was very ill. He had not been trained but had been neglected and allowed to remain at the facility in his ill state. The so called training cost us $700.00, a great deal of anguish and trauma, and then the vet bills that followed to get him well again cost another $800.00. Several months later, after Toot had regained his health we began the search again for a professional trainer. We had some professionals come and evaluate Toot. They would just tell us that he was too much dog for them to handle and did not want to take the responsibility for him. One nice lady who was not willing to train him told us that she would help us find the appropriate trainer. After making some calls to well known trainers, she sent us the phone number for you, Carla Collins, owner of Absolute Obedience. I shall never forget the day that you brought your own dog to our house and demonstrated what you had done with him and then briefly worked with Toot. The entire neighborhood was amazed, and we certainly were. After two private lessons and one group lesson, Toot is a changed Darling Dog. We would never have thought that this much could be accomplished in a mere three weeks. Thanks to you, Carla, I believe that there is hope for Toot and for us to have a very contented, long term relationship with a dog that is a GREAT GUY but that also has discipline as part of his daily activity. it makes life more pleasant for all of us. We have a ways to go but with you as our guide, Carla, we know that we will soon get there. We're attaching pictures of Toot for you at different stages of his life so you can see what he came from to where he is today. We cannot thank you enough and if ever you need a reference, please feel free to have anyone contact us about your training, your knowledge and mastery of Dogs and also for your love and respect for them.
